We’ve all heard about cats who find their way home from amazing distances. But it seems that lost cats also sometimes help their families find them. That’s what Taylor did.
Taylor was a “stray” who chose the wrong yard as his new home. The people had strictly indoor cats who didn’t like Taylor at all. And when he made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t a strictly indoor kind of guy, the people gave him to us. We thought he might enjoy living in a barn.

While he was in our shelter, he became friends with Emily, another outdoor cat. So when Katherine contacted us about two friendly barn cats, we suggested that Taylor and Emily could be the perfect match. She came to an adoption show at the Columbia PetCo store with her grandchildren, and they instantly fell in love.
Katherine had just signed the adoption contract and left the store when I noticed a couple standing next to Taylor’s crate. “That’s our cat,” they said when I approached them. He’d been missing for a year! They told me they had an indoor/outdoor home, but that wasn’t enough for Taylor. He wanted to be an outside cat.
When they found out he’d been adopted to a barn home with his friend, they decided to let him go. They spent a long time standing next to his crate saying goodbye to him. Then they went to the rescue set up next to us and adopted a kitten!
